The Lamu Cultural Festival is one of East Africa's most vibrant celebrations of Swahili heritage. This year, Mandisa Tours offered an exclusive four-day package that gave our guests front-row access to every major event.

From traditional dhow races to Swahili poetry recitals, donkey races to henna painting workshops, the festival is a living museum of coastal Kenyan culture. Our guests stayed in a beautifully restored Swahili townhouse in the heart of Lamu Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The culinary highlights alone were worth the trip. Our guests participated in cooking classes with local chefs, learning to prepare biryani, pilau, and the famous Lamu-style grilled seafood. Evening meals were taken on rooftop terraces overlooking the waterfront, with the call to prayer and the sound of dhow sails providing the soundtrack.

We're already planning next year's package with even more immersive experiences, including a day trip to the ruins of Takwa on Manda Island.
